MSC Foundation - Marine Environmental Senior Specialist

Your Purpose

To support MSC Foundation in selecting, managing and monitoring programmes & projects end-to-end, from assessment and monitoring its implementation to providing technical and operational insights to grantees and foundation’s stakeholders. The main goal is to ensure timely and efficient project development, implementation and learning/expertise sharing within the Foundation and externally as needed.

Your Impact

  • Conduct rapid, in-depth due diligence assessments of prospective partners, programs, and projects in the environmental and marine sectors, utilising the MSC Foundation methodology to ensure alignment with strategic and operational standards.
  • Provide operational and technical support throughout the full lifecycle of environmental and marine programs, projects, and initiatives managed by the Foundation - from contract initiation to project closure - including coordination with relevant MSC Group stakeholders as needed To identify opportunities for collaboration with existing or new partners with the goal of amplifying and advancing MSC Foundation’s mission and vision. 
  • To follow up, and monitor, all environmental /marine projects based on the Foundations results framework and specific contractual terms, particularly, but not limited to regular monitoring meetings, continual analysis of project progress and production of final reports - both programmatic and financial.
  • To provide technical support/mentoring Foundation’s staff on environmental M&E methodologies, tools, procedures and wider understanding of relevant topics.
  • To support the continuous development and improvement of environmental/marine project KPIs to measure and quantify the impact of MSCF donations and grants.
  • Keep the foundation’s stakeholders inform on emerging scientific and programmatic trends, as well as on policy developments.
  • In alignment with the foundation’s overall strategy, conduct desk reviews, mapping exercises and informing documents on environmental/marine conservation & restoration able to advance the foundation’s mission worldwide.
  • Recommend reliable, nature-based solutions and approaches to the challenges that may affect programmes/projects and initiatives. 
  • Gather, verify and manage relevant environmental project information to support accurate internal and external reporting, ensuring timely and consistent communication of MSCF-related updates to partners.
  • Collaborate with MSCF Awareness and Communication teams and Senior PR personnel to share key developments, outcomes, and data from environmental and marine programs for communication purposes. This includes securing impactful communication materials from partners and MSCF-supported initiatives.
  • To maintain a fruitful dialogue and engagement with the Advisory Board members when needed.
  • To manage the organisation of field missions.
  • To represent the Foundation at external meetings including relevant conferences. 
  • Support MSCF management in the preparation of detailed, data-driven operational documents and analyses for presentation at bi-annual Board, Executive, and Finance meetings.

Your Journey so far

  • Education at master’s level, on marine science with focus on the oceans; expertise on coral reefs ecosystems will be a plus.
  • At least 8 years in similar positions.
  • Field experience in the marine/coral science would be a plus.
  • Very good understanding and experience of Monitoring & Evaluation in marine conservation fields.
  • Very good experience in project/programme management and reporting at different institutional levels.
  • Demonstrated skills in project design and implementing marine conservation programmes, would be a plus.
  • Background in working for the non-profit sector, particularly foundations would be a plus.

Your Essentials

  • Excellent communication oral and writing English skills.
  • Strong understanding of environmental and marine issues coupled with capacity to develop, lead and/or implement programmes in the same domains.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and develop a solid understanding of technical aspects across diverse fields connected to or impacted by marine ecosystems - including health, education, sustainable development, climate change, and community resilience in fragile or developing contexts.
  • Strong project management skills and leading capacities.
  • Results-oriented, with proven ability to manage multiple tasks effectively and deliver under tight deadlines.
  • Availability to travel abroad.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective and collaborative relationships with external partners and supporter, as well as foundation’s staff and stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently but in strong coordination with her/his supervisor and colleagues. 
  • EU Passport or right to work in Switzerland.
